Inclement Weather Guide

At Tipton Community School Corporation (TCSC), the safety of our students and staff is our top priority. When inclement weather occurs, district leadership works closely with multiple agencies and utilizes real-time data to make the most informed and responsible decisions possible.

How Delays or Cancellations are Determined

TCSC administrators consult with local, county, and state partners to assess road safety and weather conditions. Our process includes:

  • Communication with state and county highway departments
  • Firsthand road assessments by TCSC staff
  • Evaluation of real-time and forecasted weather data from professional meteorological services
  • Consideration of student and staff safety as the primary factor

Timing:
Every effort is made to notify families of delays or closures by 6:00 AM. In the rare event of an early dismissal, TCSC will provide as much notice as possible to allow families time to plan accordingly.

Communication

TCSC uses ParentSquare as its official communication platform to share updates about school delays, closures, and early dismissals. Notifications are sent via text message, email, voice call, and app alerts.

How to Stay Connected:

  1. Visit www.parentsquare.com or download the ParentSquare app.
  2. Sign in or register using the email address or phone number listed in your PowerSchool parent account.
  3. Customize your notification preferences and language settings.

In addition to ParentSquare, announcements will also be posted on TCSC’s social media pages and shared with local news outlets (TV and radio).

Types of School Closures

TCSC utilizes two types of school closures:

eLearning Days

  • Students complete assignments from home using their school-issued devices.
  • Teachers post lessons on Google Classroom by 9:00 AM.
  • Teachers are available throughout the day via email and may offer optional virtual meetings or help sessions.
  • Due dates for assignments will be communicated by each teacher.

Traditional Snow Days

  • These are non-instructional days that require make-up time to meet the required 180 instructional days.
  • Make-up days are built into the school calendar and will be used after eLearning days have been exhausted.

Make-Up Day Schedule

In alignment with state legislation, TCSC is permitted a limited number of eLearning days per year. After those are used, traditional make-up days will follow the schedule below:

Supporting Your Student's Success During eLearning

To help students remain engaged and productive during eLearning days, we recommend the following best practices:

  • Follow a regular schedule: Students should log in early and work during normal school hours to maximize access to teacher support and maintain academic routines.
  • Create a focused workspace: Devices should be placed on a stable surface such as a desk, table, or counter to support safe and effective use.
  • Minimize distractions: Ensure the learning environment is quiet and free from unnecessary distractions such as television or other active devices. Younger siblings or pets should be engaged elsewhere when possible.
  • Have supplies on hand: Keep essential school supplies—such as pencils, paper, and crayons—readily available to support learning tasks.
  • Technical support: If emergency technology assistance is needed, please contact our Technology Department at ithelp@tcsc.k12.in.us.

Providing a structured and supportive learning environment at home helps students stay focused and successful on eLearning days.
