The Indiana General Assembly recently amended the law regarding the enrollment of kindergarten students. This law does not have any impact on parents wishing to enroll their child in kindergarten. To enroll in kindergarten at Tipton Elementary School, the law still requires a student to be at least five years of age on August 1 of the current school year.
If a parent has a child born between August 1 and September 1, and they feel their child is ready for kindergarten, board policy allows the parent to file an appeal to have their child enroll in kindergarten early. To start an appeal, the parent must submit a letter requesting the early admission to the Superintendent no later than fifteen (15) business days prior to the first day of school (July 19 for the 2019-2020 school year). Parent should attach additional information that would assist in evaluating the child, particularly related to any previously completed formal evaluations of cognitive abilities, motor skills development, social/emotional behavior, adaptive behavior, academic readiness, perceptual development, or other assessments.
Tipton Elementary School will conduct their Kindergarten Round-Up on Friday, May 24th. Please call Tipton Elementary 765-675-7397, ext. 400 to make an appointment if your child is 5 by August 1, 2019.
