High Ability Curriculum & Instruction
-
TCSC students are grouped for core curriculum in math and English/language arts for each grade level through either clustered or self-contained classrooms, depending on the size of each class and percentage of high ability students. Both approaches will provide teachers the ability to differentiate curriculum tailored to the needs of all students, including our high ability students.
Our staff spent the past two school years developing a K-12 vertically aligned scope and sequence that detailed how curriculum and instruction would be differentiated both between and within grade levels. These scope and sequence documents are also made publicly available on our district website.
TCSC is partnering with Curriculum Associates to provide the i-Ready formative assessment to our K-8 students. Along with this adaptive assessment, students will be placed in individualized pathways as a form of intervention for all students. This provides not only academic goals for our students to strive for over the course of the school year, but it also provides our staff with instructional resources to provide our staff with personalized instructional plans that meet students where they are at in our efforts to accelerate student learning. This gives our students the ability to go beyond what the core curriculum can provide for them, allowing each student to reach their full potential.
Students in grades 9-12 may register for honors, AP, or dual credit courses if they meet the necessary academic qualifications. These courses offer an advanced curriculum at an accelerated pace compared to traditional courses. Please speak with your child’s guidance counselor for more details.
