Kindness at THS

Recently students in an English class took it upon themselves to put post-it notes with positive messages on all of the student lockers.  This was unprompted and shows the caring type of students we have here.  Thank you students for showing everyone it is ok to be kind.

Tipton Athletes are the Best

Congratulations to the Lady Blue Devils Basketball Team on their Sectional Championship this past Saturday. They will play the second game (around noon) at the Eastern Howard Regional this Saturday, February 10.

We can take pride in this team not only on winning games but how they play their games, as do all Tipton athletes. One of the officials for Saturday's game posted the following report with IHSSA:

"I wanted to commend the players and coaches from both Eastern (Greentown) and Tipton High Schools. In the Sectional final ALL of the players exhibited excellent sportsmanship. They helped their opponents up from the floor when one went down. I also noted short, brief conversations of apology if there were an accident bump as well as smiles at one another during the course of the game. The coaches should also be recognized as they both represented their respective schools and themselves as professionals. If they had a question, it was asked in a respectful manner. The dialogue between the coaches and my crew was refreshing. These gentlemen coached hard and exhibited good sportsmanship. My sincere thanks to both teams."

Block 4 Scheduling Meeting Update

On Monday, January 22, a meeting was held at Tipton High School to share information about the high school schedule.  The purpose of the meeting was to share with parents the pros and cons of using a Block 4 schedule and how it compares with a more traditional schedule.

THS currently is using a schedule known as the Block 4 schedule.  Many other area schools use a 7-period traditional schedule.  THS has been using the Block 4 for the past 20 years. There are many who feel the Block 4 schedule is being used successfully at THS; there are others who think a more traditional schedule would be more favorable.

For those who could not attend, the PowerPoint presentation is provided along with a brief summary of some of the pros and cons around the Block 4 schedule currently used at THS.

A survey will be distributed later in January to get the opinions of parents, staff, and students on the issue of the school’s schedule. A link to the survey (using a Google Form) will be sent by email through School Messenger.   THIS SURVEY WILL CLOSE WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 31.

Tipton High School will hold an informational meeting for parents on the topic of the Tipton High School’s schedule.  This meeting will take place on Monday, January 15.  It will begin at 6:00 PM in the THS Cafeteria.

The purpose of the meeting is to share with parents the pros and cons of using a Block 4 schedule and how it compares with a more traditional schedule.

The meeting will be an open discussion on this issue.

A survey will be distributed later in January to get the opinions of parents, staff and students on the issue of the school’s schedule.  Hopefully, parents will attend this meeting to become more informed of the issue before the survey is distributed.

School Delays and Closing Guidelines

We have begun the second semester of the school year with winter weather in full force.  As we all know, Indiana weather can be very unpredictable.  During the next couple of months, you will be hearing of school delays or closings and may how those decisions are made. It is rarely an easy decision and one that involves talking with a number of local agencies. TCSC has developed guidelines to refer to when making decisions about school delays and cancelations. {School Delay and Closing Guidelines}

The best way for parents to keep informed about school closing and delays is to make sure your information is up-to-date in the school’s Harmony system.  The automated calling system, School Messenger,  uses this information to contact you by phone, email, and/or text.  You can also get the most up-to-date information on Twitter (@TiptonSuperin, @TiptonSchools), Facebook, Tipton Community School Corporation’s website, or any of the local media outlets. Decisions are made as early as possible and usually before 6:00 a.m.

With our transportation routes and bus stops, it will be very important to make sure our children have warm coats, gloves, hats, and scarves as they walk to and from the bus stop and while they wait for their bus. Inclement weather will most assuredly result in our buses being delayed by drivers navigating wet, snowy, slushy, or icy roadways. If you have sidewalks in your neighborhood, please encourage your neighbors to keep their walks cleared of snow and ice during these winter months. In addition, please remind your children that while they may see vehicles approaching, the drivers may not see them. Being aware of their surroundings is even more important when the weather is poor.

Finally, we would like to have your children in school every day that we are in session. However, we will always respect your decision as a parent when it comes to the safety of your child(ren). Together, we will continue to provide great opportunities for our children and prepare them for their future successes.
