On December 17, Tipton High School hosted the grand opening of the new VR (Virtual Reality)/esports Lab. Teacher, John Robertson, created the lab from a grant through the Tipton County Foundation.
The lab is the first dedicated VR and esports arena in a high school in the state, and possibly in the country. Other schools have esports programs, but none have a fully dedicated space for it. Tipton High School sees esports as a major area of competition in the future, as well as having big business opportunities, and wants its students to be on the forefront of this industry.
"At the same time," Robertson says, “we also see the value of having virtual reality available for instruction in classrooms. The lab is just now being completed, and we’ve already had history, literature, and geography students in the lab enhancing their education with VR experiences.“
